The project Tangible Knowledge Exhibition, prompting the acronym TaKEx, was funded within the 2005 Researchers in Europe Initiative. This initiative aims to improve the public image of science and scientists and to attract young people to careers in science by awareness-raising events carried out from June to November 2005.
Against this background the Institute for Knowledge Management, Graz University of Technology, organised such an event which had its focus on knowledge management. The event was embedded in the 5th International Conference on Knowledge Management, for which reason the impact of taKEx was increased. Pupils, students, as well as the general public were its target groups. The following events were planned for catching their attention…

Altogether, our event was very successful. About hundred private persons and students attended TaKEx, which gave us the chance to promote research within and call the interest of a broad audience. Concerning the distribution of sexes, we found a satisfying number of females attending the event. From a special evaluation in which students participated we saw that the interest in research, especially in applied research, is high. Researchers are attested a good image and research is thought to contribute largely to the competitiveness of a country and to have a large value for society.
